Types of Articulating Man Lifts
Man lifts are available in both electric-powered and engine-powered units. These machines are made up to complete a variety of applications depending on the industry and the function. There are several outdoor lifts that have a sixty nine foot horizontal lift and could rise up over one hundred forty feet. There are several lifts which are especially designed for small spaces. These units can extend twenty one feet and rise 36 feet.
Generally, electric powered man lifts are used on indoor concrete slabs. They normally have slim designs in order to easily fit into narrow spaces. Engine-powered man lifts normally operate on propane, gas and diesel. They are mostly designed for outdoor applications.
Electric Man Lifts
The electric man lift is best suited for indoor applications because they are designed smaller, more able to fit in tight spaces and fit through standard doorways. These models can maneuver around blockages and barriers, while still reaching overhead work places and do not contribute to air pollution.
Some electric man lifts have a rotating platform that enables for more precise movements. The lift controls have been designed to apply accuracy and efficiency. The electric lifts are available in numerous sizes. They are able to be used in places with high ceilings or in small warehouses. The electric drives utilize rechargeable batteries that could be recharged after the shift ends.
Engine-Powered Lifts
Articulating lifts that are engine-powered are engineered to work on all types of terrains. Some equipment come fitted with legs that hoist the lift's body off its wheels to help create a more stable foundation. There are other units that are specifically designed for rough and uneven terrain. Most of the lifts are able to handle 500 lbs. Certain units can even lift six hundred pound loads. In these heavy-duty instances, the machine could articulate 69 feet out in any direction or over 140 feet high.
During the last decade, telehandlers, also referred to as rough terrain variable reach forklifts, have surpassed the reputation of motorized mobile machines. These machines have become the gem of the construction business and with excellent reason. These equipment are versatile, extremely strong and useful. As the number of units and manufacturers has exploded over the last 5 years or so, there are presently a few of these equipment readily available on the market.
In technical terms, a telehandler is considered to be an ITA* Class 7 Powered Industrial Truck. This description means it is a rough terrain forklift, but only in name only. Any of the similarities between a telehandler and a vertical mast type forklift literally ends on operation and on sight. There are several other significant differences between the two machinery discussed below.
Compared to a vertical mast, a telehandler has a completely different look since it is designed with a horizontal boom. A telehandler with a jib attachment from a distance could resemble more of a crane rather than a forklift. The boom could telescope or extend and retract as long as thirty feet and beyond depending on the particular unit. The boom is also able to elevate to an angle from horizontal to approximately seventy degrees. Telehandlers have earned the nickname of "zoom booms" due to their ability to telescope. This name has become rather popular with the operators.
"Transaction" is a different optional boom related function. Telehandlers which are equipped with this alternative have a boom that is mounted on the chassis in such a way that when the operator starts it, the entire boom to travel forward and back, particularly for distances up to eight feet or so. Amongst the main benefits of this function is that it allows the forks to be cleanly withdrawn from a load and the forks can be cleanly inserted under, regardless of the boom angle.
Zoom booms have changed the construction business. They can accomplish many tasks which used to take a lot more man-power and time to finish.
